What Health Screenings?

Do you only go to the doctor when you feel sick? It is very important for men to get regular tests done for early detection of disease, as the earlier it is detected, the better chance there is of preventing or reversing the condition. Below are some guidelines for a health screening routine for men:

Blood Pressure: At least every 2 years

Cholesterol: Starting at age 35, get tested at least every 5 years. If you smoke, have diabetes, or if heart disease runs in your family, begin these tests at age 20.

Diabetes Tests: If you have high cholesterol or high blood pressure.

Colorectal Cancer Tests: Not a test most are comfortable with, but extremely important. Start at age 50.

Prostate Cancer Screening: Have a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test, digital rectal examination (DRE)or ultrasound screening.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Get tested as appropriate to your current lifestyle or history.

All of these tests can be completed in WA Optimum Health Care Centers, under the direction of your personal physician, with any necessary follow-up visits customized for your individual health needs.
